About the Artist

Roderick Chapman is a Canadian-born artist who now resides in Melbourne Australia. His

artistic journey began with a deep familial inspiration—his great-grandfather, George Frederick

Castleden, whose evocative landscapes and role in the early 20th-century art community first sparked

Roderick’s passion for painting. Learn more about Castleden’s life and legacy here:

Although Roderick didn’t formally pursue art in his younger years, he always found joy in visiting

galleries and admiring a wide variety of painting styles. It was during the quiet solitude of the COVID

period that he finally embraced painting himself—finding immense satisfaction in exploring different

acrylic techniques, from realistic to impressionistic to abstract.

A largely self-taught artist, Roderick supplements his learning with online tutorials, books, and art

demonstrations, finding them fascinating windows into how other artists work. He has drawn inspiration

from many sources, including Anita Nairne of Vancouver, whose intuitive approach encouraged him to

keep pursuing his passion and reminded him that we all have a story to tell through creative

expression.

While he is still discovering his own artistic voice, Roderick cherishes the creative

process above all—valuing each brushstroke as another step in sharing his story through

art.
